In common with the UK National Honours, there are no deadlines for the receipt of nomination forms. Award nominations will be considered at any point within 3 years of the nomination. Therefore, nominations should not be made for a particular year's Award. If you know of a volunteer group that devotes its time to helping others in your local community, and deserves recognition, nominate them for an award.
You can nominate a group (two or more people) if:
- It is based in the UK,
- It has been volunteering for the benefit of people in the UK or overseas for at least three years
- More than half its members are volunteers who have the right of residence in the UK.
Groups solely concerned with fundraising for charitable purposes are not eligible
It's easy to nominate
For further information see below or write to The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, c/o Consolidated, 22 Endell Street, London WC2H 9AD
Who may make a nomination?
Any person or persons, including group beneficiaries, may make a nomination by completing the form and forwarding it to the Queen's Award Office at the address given above. Groups (volunteer or paid staff) are asked not to self-nominate to ensure independence and support.
Timing of nominations
In common with the UK National Honours, there are no deadlines for the receipt of nomination forms. Award nominations will be considered at any point within 3 years of the nomination. Therefore, nominations should not be made for a particular year's Award.
The Awards are published on 2 June on the occasion of the anniversary of Her Majesty's Coronation. Award recipients and their nominators will be informed approximately 1 - 2 weeks prior to the announcement but this information should not be made public outside the group until 2 June.
Completeting the nomination form
Please complete the nomination form accurately, using the maximum word length and following the instructions in each section. It is important that you provide full yet succinct information about your nominated group, and explain what their actual contribution to their beneficiaries and community has been.
If you require any advice or assistance to complete the form, please contact the Award Administrator.
Confidentiality
In contrast to other National Honours, we do not expect nominations to be treated in confidence. This is due to the possibility that County Assessment Panels normally wish to visit groups in order to gain better understanding of their work, and that groups must have indicated that they willing to accept an Award if the nomination is successful. However, it is important that groups understand that an Award will not automatically follow a submission of a nomination form.
Support letters
Two letters of support must be provided from others who have firsthand knowledge of and can endorse the nominated group's contribution. These must be attached to the nomination form and the names of the two supporters, and their relationship with the group, must be given on the nomination form. If supporting letters are not received, the nomination will be deemed ineligible.
Acknowledgement and progress of a nomination
Upon receipt of your nomination, we will send an acknowledgement. We regret that it is not possible to enter into correspondence on the merits of a particular nomination whilst it is under consideration or if in due course the nomination lapses.
Changes to information submitted
You may be asked by the Award Administrator to complete a form with any updated information about your nominated group during the 3 year period that the nomination is eligible for consideration.
